Durham Bike Rack Map Help

How to Use the Map

General

It's really easy. You cannot mess anything up, so play around and have fun. The map is somewhat interactive, so for example you can move the map by clicking and pulling it. You can use the controls on the left side of the map to zoom in and out or recenter the map. Clicking on Satellite near the top right of the map will switch to a satellite picture view of the area you are looking at on the map. Hybrid will show a combination of the regular map and the satellite view.

The Markers (Map Points)

The colored markers on the map will give you more information about individual points just by clicking on them. Alternatively, you can also click on the links on the right hand sidebar and it will pop up the same window as if you had clicked directly on the point. The sidebar is organized by location, and the markers are color coded to match the color of the box they are listed in on the sidebar. The check box beside each location box on the sidebar can be unchecked to remove the corresponding markers from the map. Checking the box again will repopulate the markers onto the map.

Information Windows

When you click on points on the map or on the links on the sidebar, a window with tabs will pop up. The first tab contains a brief description and usually a picture of the bike rack. The description is often a clickable link to the web site of the business or place where the rack is located. If you want to bring up the linked site in a new window, you can hold down the SHIFT key while clicking the link and it will do that for you. Otherwise, you can use your back button to come back to this web site. The pictures on many tabs are clickable too. The tab will indicate if a picture is clickable and if it is, clicking will bring up a larger picture of the bike rack's area. These larger pictures will open in a new browser window. If you maximize the window, the picture will show at full size unless your resolution on your monitor is set really low. You can click on other tabs to bring them up. Some locations will have 2 tabs, others will have 3 or more. It depends upon how many racks are at that location. I always have a More Info tab to give a little description with further directions if necessary.
