About the Bicycle Rack Map for Durham North Carolina

The Bike Rack Map was created using the Google Maps API. I did a lot of cutting and pasting of code and have links to some of the more helpful web sites I used on the Links page. The map reads its points from an XML file that I created again with a lot of cutting and pasting, using Notepad. Feel free to borrow and steal any of my code that you find useful.
You can view Help for in depth details. It's really easy. The map is somewhat interactive, so for example you can put your mouse cursor on the map, click and drag to different map locations. You can use the controls on the left side of the map to zoom in and out or recenter the map. Clicking on Satellite near the top right of the map will switch to a satellite picture view of the area you are looking at on the map. Hybrid will show a combination of the regular map and the satellite view. You can get more information about individual points just by clicking on it. Alternatively, you can also click on the links on the sidebar and it will pop up the same window as if you had clicked directly on the point. You cannot mess anything up, so play around and have fun.
When you click on points on the map or on the links on the sidebar, a window with tabs will pop up. The first window contains a brief description that is possibly a clickable link, and it usually contains a picture of the bike rack. Many pictures can be clicked to pop up a larger version of the picture. You can click on other tabs to bring them up. Some will have 2 tabs, others will have 3 or more. It depends upon how many racks are at that location. I always have a More Info tab to give a little description with further directions if necessary.
I live in the Trinity Park neighborhood near downtown Durham. I'm always happy to hear from people. If you are letting me know about a rack, I appreciate it and will get it up on the site as soon as possible. Let me know if you already have a picture of the rack when you contact me and I'll have you email it to me. In the Coming Soon area, I will list racks that I have been notified about but have not yet had a chance to map. Please check there before submitting your location. Everyone makes mistakes, so if you see a point that is plotted incorrectly or has faulty information, please let me know.
